Some of the Best Carp Baits Not Often Used By Anglers

Here is a list of some of the best carp baits hardly ever used by carp anglers these days. Using these rare carp baits could give you an edge when fishing for the larger carp in a lake. I have personally caught carp on all the following rarely used baits, apart from the first three in the list.

  • Snails - best used near lily pads or reed bushes!!!
  • Mussels
  • Slugs
  • Beetles
  • Marsh mellows - great surface bait
  • Bloodworm
  • Jokers
  • Prawns
  • Fresh squid
  • Berries - from surrounding trees
  • Cheese
  • Marmite - dip hookbait in it!
  • Beans / peas
  • Potatoes
  • Cat food - meat mixed into groundbaits
  • Liquidized bread - add maggots for increased attraction

A good tip used by many match anglers is to use joker worms mixed with damp leam soil. You can mix jokers with breadcrumb groundbait at a ratio of 2-to-1 in favour of groundbait, and this will help the jokers to lay on top of the leam mixture so the jokers are visible and wriggling on the top for maximum attraction to carp.

Good Hook-Bait Cocktail Combinations Used to Catch Massive Carp

Corn & boilies – 1 piece corn placed over the boilie for greater attraction. Very effective when using a fluorescent fake corn over a boilie. The buoyancy of the fake bait counterbalances the weight of the hook and the boilie acts more like the other free offerings.

Corn & worms – Corn helps to hold the worm on the hook.

Bread & Maggots – Use liquidized bread to spod into the swim. The bright white bread helps attract wary carp into the area. When used on the hook, the white bread provides additional hook coverage so it’s less visible and the sight of wriggling maggots on the hair encourages carp to feed on the hookbait.

Bread ball dipped in marmite – Carp love salt and marmite is loaded with it! Marmite also contains yeast and vitamins which is extra nutrition for carp.

Pepperami & maggots – Use pepperami on the hair rig and thread a few maggots straight onto the hook. The maggots help cover the hook a little.

Colour-combination snowman rig – Try using a dark, big boilie with a smaller pop-up boilie on top. The brighter colour of the pop-up bait attracts and its buoyancy counterbalances the weight of the hook making the whole rig more effective for hooking.

Pellet & marsh mellow combinations – Place a big pre-drilled pellet on the hair first, then thread on a bright pink marsh mellow. The buoyant mellow will help counter the weight of the heavy pellet and it’ll provide extra vision and attraction to any massive carp that may be passing by!
